Ancient World

Perseus Project
Perhaps the most remarkable academic site on the internet, the Perseus Project is an the "Evolving Digital Library" based at Tufts University, U.S.A. A wealth of ancient texts, images, Liddell-Scott's lexicon and more. You could visit this every day and continually make fresh discoveries. You will find individual sections linked elsewhere on The New Testament Gateway. Mirror sites are available at Berlin, Germany and Oxford, United Kingdom -- you may find these faster than the main site.

Resources at Perseus
By David Instone Brewer: a useful guide to some of the resources at Perseus that can all too easily get missed.

Ancient and Classical History
By N. S. Gill: comprehensive and up to date "About.com" site on the ancient world with multiple categories (including even Jesus). The content is partly original to the site and partly made up of annotated directories of links. Useful site but very heavy on advertising.

Livius - Articles on Ancient History (New)
By Jona Lendering: excellent series of clear, illustrated, hyperlinked articles on the ancient world. Includes massive section on Ancient Judaea including articles on Jewish Wars, Messiah and more.

What Do You Want to Know Today?
A useful search form created by the University of Kentucky (U.S.A.) Classics Department. Use it to enter several sites and to search resources, Liddell-Scott, the index to ANRW and more.

Diotima: Women and Gender in the Ancient World
Diotima, at the University of Kentucky, U.S.A., is the first class web site focusing on women and gender in the ancient world.

Philip A. Harland: Associations, Synagogues and Congregations
Web site to accompany the book of the same name published in 2003 by Fortress;  aims to bring the social world of early Christians and Jews to life using inscriptions, monuments, archaeological finds, and literary texts from the Roman empire, especially Asia Minor.

Ancient World: WWW Sites
By K. C. Hanson: a first class page from a pioneer of web resources on the ancient world.
